Collapse ▲The Sandhills Regional Chicken Project is now open for registration! This project involves raising chicks, completing a poultry record book, and competing in a regional chicken show in May to show off all of your hard work. This year, participants have the option between Easter Eggers, Cuckoo Marans, and Broilers. The entry deadline for hen chicks is January 8th and the deadline for entry for broiler chicks is February 9th. For more information or questions, contact the N.C. Cooperative Extension, Montgomery County Center. Registration form is attached below.

- Laying Hen Chicks – Jan 8, 2026
- Broiler Chicks – Feb 9, 2026
- Orientation Zoom – Feb 17, 2026
- Laying Hen Chick Delivery – Feb 2026
- Broiler Chick Delivery – March 2026
- Show – May 11, 2026
Note: A limited number of laying hen chicks will be available. If you register too late, you may not be able to receive laying hen chicks. Broilers will still be available if laying hen chicks are not.
