Application of pesticides require checking to ensure that the active ingredient of the product is not restricted due to the presence of an endangered species or critical habitat. This ensures that the endangered species or their designated critical habitat is not adversely affected by use of the product. In years past, determining whether an endangered species was present within an area was not an easy task. Too, species are added and removed frequently. Today, a simple web tool is aids in identifying areas with endangered species as well as providing recommendations for specific pesticide active ingredients. The web page is Bulletins Live! To utilize this page, simply use the mouse to scroll and narrow down to the area that a pesticide will be applied. Next, select the month of application from the “Application Month” dialog box. Following the month of application selection, type in or select from the dialog box the active ingredient of the pesticide or the EPA registration number. Finally, select the “Search” button. If there is an endangered species or habitat restriction for the pesticide active ingredient, this information will show on the map. Likewise, if not, a dialog box will provide the similar information showing no restriction for this product. The results can be printed or stored if desired.

When using the tool, realize that the “Product Name” relies upon the chemical name of the active ingredient of the product. Common brand names are not accepted. Too, the tool will only allow for the current month and six month in the future for the application . This ensures that the most current information is available.

Many agricultural and landscape professional are required to record pesticide application information the environment. This tool will ensure that no application is made in areas with protected endangered species.
