Collapse ▲It was a Valentine’s Day special delivery to four of the Montgomery County 4-H Livestock Club members on Friday, February 14th. Instead of candy, they took home their day-old baby chicks that they will care for and raise until the Regional Chicken Show in April.
This project started several years ago as a way to get young people interested in animal projects while helping them be more responsible, improving their self-confidence, record keeping skills and public speaking abilities. Participants will care for their animals and keep an accurate record of the experience. On April 28th, the birds will be shown at the White Lake FFA Camp in Bladen County and awards will be presented. Young people will have their best bird judged along with their record books and their showmanship/knowledge of poultry.
This year, Montgomery County has Madilynn Bowles, Ayden Bowles, Luke Dennis and Caroline Smith representing us against 80 other 4-Hers and FFA students from across a 6 county area. Good Luck Showmen, we know you always represent us well and make us proud!
