They say money doesn’t grow on trees, but the forest sector plays a key role in the economy of North Carolina. North Carolina has roughly 18.1 million acres of timberland, which supports a robust forest products industry across the state. In 2017, the NC forest sector contributed $32.8 billion, supporting 150,000 jobs.

This handout breaks down how the forest sector contributed to the North Carolina economy in 2017, including employment, labor income, and more. For this information and other quick facts about the forest sector’s contribution to the state economy, check out this handout.
